We would like to invite you to become a member of the American Academy of Oral Surgery. This organization is open to all dentists, whether a general practitioner or a specialist, as well as dental students and residents. The Mission of the AA-OS is to provide a community and a pathway for dental health care providers, including their office team, to obtain the education and training necessary to successfully perform and complete surgical procedures in their offices. This goes beyond what was taught to them in Dental School, so they have the competence and confidence to provide the best surgical care to their patients.
The AA-OS will conduct Oral Surgery and dental implant education and training via its live courses (including hands-on workshops), many online resources, and through approved outside educators to facilitate members obtaining the best education and training by well-qualified and experienced instructors. Course topics include:
- Preoperative patient assessment
- Infection control
- Surgical extractions
- Radiology and imaging
- Suturing techniques
- Post-operative care
- Informed consent
- Surgical anatomy and biology
- Management of medical emergencies
- Removal of impacted teeth
- Guided bone regeneration
- Advanced bone grafting techniques
- Pre-prosthetic procedures
- Management of surgical complications
In addition, we will be holding an annual meeting with education and comradery for all members. Doctors who have excelled in their completion of continuing education will be awarded Masters and Diplomates recognition in a special ceremony at each meeting.
